AI-presenter interview-style video created with Synthesia using a custom avatar and voice to provide a personalized introduction for my instructional design portfolio.
This video was designed to introduce myself in a dynamic and engaging format, allowing potential employers and collaborators to connect with my personality, communication style, and approach to instructional design.
The “Interview with Me” video aims to:
Humanize the digital portfolio experience through a conversational, authentic presentation.
Showcase the ability to use AI-driven video creation tools for professional storytelling and learner engagement.
Demonstrate the creative application of instructional design principles to non-traditional learning or communication formats.
This asset maps to the following professional outcomes:
Communicate design philosophy and expertise through multimedia storytelling.
Apply emerging technology to enhance user engagement in professional learning spaces.
Model effective use of video and AI for personalized, human-centered learning communication.
To support these goals, the video:
Integrates conversational dialogue and visual pacing to sustain viewer attention.
Uses storytelling as a pedagogical device to share experience and instructional design methods.
Reflects authenticity and professionalism through a self-created AI avatar and voice.
I began by defining the goal: to create a personal yet professional video that introduces who I am as an Instructional Designer, while demonstrating technical proficiency in AI-based media creation. From that goal, I structured the “interview” format to balance professionalism with relatability.
Using ChatGPT as a co-creator, I wrote a conversational script that alternates between interviewer and interviewee dialogue. The tone was designed to be approachable, confident, and reflective—highlighting key elements of my instructional design philosophy and professional experiences.
I used Synthesia to create a custom avatar modeled after my likeness and generated a personalized voice clone for narration. This process ensured authenticity and added a distinct personal dimension to the video, transforming it from a generic AI presentation into a genuine self-representation.
Once the avatar and voice were finalized, I imported the script into Synthesia and synchronized it with subtle gestures, facial expressions, and timing. The video was edited to ensure smooth pacing and clear transitions between interviewer and interviewee segments, maintaining a natural rhythm and flow.
I incorporated background visuals, transitions, and text overlays to visually separate the “interviewer” and “interviewee” personas. Using Adobe Express for layout concepts and Camtasia for final editing, I refined the color palette, typography, and branding to align with my portfolio’s visual identity.
Even though this was a professional showcase rather than an instructional asset, I intentionally applied design principles such as:
Personalization Principle: Delivered content through conversational AI dialogue to build connection.
Coherence Principle: Streamlined visuals and language to focus on key takeaways about my professional identity.
Contiguity Principle: Aligned on-screen text with spoken dialogue for cognitive reinforcement.
